The SteelSeries Aerox 9 Wireless is a very good mouse for FPS and Battle Royale games. It's lightweight compared to similar models with 12-button side panels, and the build quality feels excellent. Performance-wise, you can set your CPI precisely within a broad range, and the minimum lift-off distance is very low. Unfortunately, while the click latency is very good, it isn't as low as some similarly-priced options.

The Aerox 9 Wireless can be summed up very succinctly: Essentially, SteelSeries took the Aerox 5 Wireless and simply replaced the left side panel with a 12-button grid for MMOs. Once we look below the surface, however, several notable differences come to light, which make the Aerox 9 Wireless an even less compelling offering than the Aerox 5 Wireless.

I have put a truly staggering number of hours into Elder Scrolls Online in the last few years. A couple of lockdowns certainly helped pump those numbers up, and the fact I’ve worked from home for over a decade, means I’m never far from being able to flip from work to play quicker than most gamers at the end of a hard day… or in the middle of a hard day too, if I wanted to. One thing I do more than most, however, is I wear out keyboards, mice and gaming chairs like nothing else. I don’t go to work and sit at one desk, then come home to sit at my own, I’m here for the long haul each day. I need a mouse that can do it all, fit my work schedule, but still deliver the high-end thrills I’ve got a taste for. It needs to deliver a next-level MMO gaming experience, so I can fire off chat commands, macros, emotes, add-ons and more without losing my pace in battle… or to just streamline my goofing around.

In order to test the Aerox 9 Wireless, we ran Diablo III, ESO, Star Wars: The Old Republic and Monster Hunter: World; after getting used a bit with the side buttons, we saw that the mouse mappings really help with a faster activation of spells, attacks and if you are a person which plays a favorite game frequently, the extra buttons coupled with the low weight of the mouse and the pure PTFE feet really help getting a nice experience out of it.
