Zum 10. Jubiläum seiner Premium-Kopfhörer bringt Sony den "1000X The Collexion" auf den Markt. Inwiefern setzt er sich vom WH-1000XM6 ab?

Sony’s 1000X The Collexion are the fashionable model in its WH-1000X series. While noise cancelling and battery life take a hit compared to the WH-1000XM6, these headphones are focused on delivering a better sound experience and comfort – and on that front they’ve succeeded.

The Sony 1000X The Collexion may be expensive, but their luxurious build, detailed sound, and top-tier comfortability help to justify their price tag. Their battery life is on the low side, and the ANC is a step down from what we saw on the Sony WH-1000XM6, but if you want headphones with the kind of spacious sound that made Apple’s AirPods Max a hit, but without being locked to Apple, then these are a strong choice.

There’s much to admire about Sony’s 1000X The Collexion over-ears. It’s impossible to ignore their poised, detail-rich performance, while that ample feature set and classy construction make them tough to resist. There is a ‘but’, however. In pursuing a particular sonic signature – namely, one that goes after scale, detail and clarity – it’s hard not to feel as though Sony has slightly thrown the baby out with the bathwater. Yes, these are seriously talented performers, but deep down, they feel like headphones which were built to impress rather than entertain. As a result, we find ourselves admiring them rather than completely falling in love.

Sony obviously spent a lot of time refining the design of its 1000X line for this 10th anniversary model. The 1000XX has a more premium look thanks to an abundance of leather and metal, as opposed to the usual matte plastic and leather formula. Some of those changes also lead to a more comfortable fit, which is always a welcome upgrade for a device you'll likely wear for hours at a time. I also celebrate the arrival of more robust DSEE upscaling as that's one of Sony's long-running features that I truly can't live without. Alas, a more perfect 1000X package wasn't meant to be this time. Despite the improvements here, I prefer the overall tuning and the more effective ANC performance on the WH-1000XM6. For a set of headphones that costs $650, nearly $200 more than the "regular" version, I have some pretty high expectations.
