Seasonic Syncro Q704, Glasfenster, 650W ATX

Das Gehäuse kann mit einem dezenten Design, einer hochwertigen Verarbeitung und viel Platz im Innenraum punkten. Das Netzteil wird in einer neuartigen Weise im Gehäuse untergebracht, was nicht nur für ein sauberes Kabelmanagement sorgt, sondern auch endlich mal eine Idee weiter gedacht ist. Bei den Lüftern hat Seasonic jedoch etwas Potenzial verschenkt.

Seasonic steht für Netzteile - und hat bisher auch nur Produkte im Netzteil-Segment angeboten. Umso überraschender ist, dass wir jetzt erstmalig ein PC-Gehäuse von Seasonic testen können. Das SYNCRO Q704 wurde regelrecht um ein Netzteil herum entwickelt - und zwar um Seasonics SYNCRO CONNECT. Diese Netzteilreihe soll für ein massiv optimiertes Kabelmanagement sorgen. Und so wollen wir natürlich auch herausfinden, wie ordentlich es im SYNCRO Q704 wirklich zugeht.

One of the things that has "plagued" the PC community for the past 2 decades or so has been cable management. Initially proper cable management was purely something that could help with airflow levels (thus lower system temperatures in general) but with the introduction of the very first clear side panels having a clean interior became even more important. To that end PC case manufacturers added more holes and room behind the motherboard tray for cables whereas motherboard manufacturers started using angled connectors. Still, it wasn't only up until a few years back that manufacturers took things a step further with Seasonic probably being the first to introduce such solutions and more specifically their SYNCRO towers and Syncro CONNECT power supply units. So today i decided to take a thorough look at their SYNCRO Q704 + CONNECT DPC-850 bundle to see what new it brings to the table.

The Seasonic SYNCRO Q704 is an attractive (big as it’s 537 x 234 x 493 mm (L x W x H)) mid-tower chassis focused on delivering high quality. It’s an E-ATX motherboard compatible case, which allows the installation of a combo of 360 + 360 + 120 water cooling radiators or even a 185 mm high air-cooler. You can fit here up to five drives (three 2.5” + two 3.5”/2.5” bays). The installation of the parts went pretty smooth, but it’s better to connect the cables to the Connect module first before securing it to the chassis. The cable management is perfect, thanks to the custom cables provided for the included PSU. Also, the Connect module has a fan and aRGB hub, making the installation a breeze. The build quality is great, but you probably would expect that for the price. Speaking of it – it’s $309.99/€389. But you need to remember that the PSU has a ten years-long guarantee. What would we like more? For example, thumbscrews for the expansion ports, better access to the 3.5” tray? The cable of the rear fan to be longer, without a need to use the extension? Maybe it would be good to have the Connect module more compatible with some other chassis? The fans should have a lower range of rpm’s, as the minimum is about 900 (and max 2200). Even the 700-2000 would bring much improvement. Summing it up – it’s a great chassis that comes with some drawbacks (sometimes it’s a bit of nit-picking) and a huge price. Well, it’s an innovative product, so you also pay for that. We surely can recommend this chassis.

Seasonic makes some great PSUs, and they have been doing so for as long as I can remember. In times where many brands are looking to diversify by expanding their line-up with related yet rather bland products, the Seasonic Q7 series case alongside their Connect PSUs seems like a useful step in the right direction. It makes sense for the company to offer their own cases, ideally bundled right with their PSUs, similar to how some case brands bundle their fans with their enclosures.
