Mit der Viper V2 Pro versucht Razer genau das, was Logitech mit der G Pro X Superlight geschafft hat: durch Optimierung einer sehr guten Maus das perfekte Fingertip-Grip-Eingabegerät für kompetitive Shooter-Spieler erschaffen. Die Spezifikationen treibt Razer dafür kompromisslos hoch, aber das gilt auch für den Preis.

The Razer Viper V2 Pro is a remarkable FPS gaming mouse. It's extremely lightweight and feels very sturdy. It has a comfortable symmetrical shape and outstanding feet that glide very smoothly on mousepads and desks. Performance-wise, it has an extremely wide CPI range, a very low minimum lift-off distance, and exceptionally low click latency.

In late 2019, Razer debuted the Viper Ultimate. One of the finest releases then, the Viper Ultimate still manages to be a top recommendation more than two and a half years later. Accordingly, a successor inevitably finds itself in a difficult position, as any improvements will seem marginal. By and large, this is the case for the Viper V2 Pro. For some, the main difference may not even be seen as an improvement: Compared to the Viper Ultimate at 74 g, the Viper V2 Pro in black loses a whopping 17 g, managing to even beat the Logitech G Pro X Superlight in this regard. However, in order to achieve this, RGB lighting as well as the built-in side grips and second set of side buttons on the right side, as well as charging dock compatibility had to go, meaning that the Viper V2 Pro is no longer a symmetrical design, just an ambidextrous one. To compensate for the lack of built-in side grips, Razer included a set of grip tape with the Viper V2 Pro. Most impressively, build quality did not suffer, at least on my copy: Creaking is minimal, the shell does not flex, and while I can actuate the side buttons by squeezing the sides, doing so requires applying excessive force.

The reintroduction of the Viper lineup was a big move for Razer, especially with them going back to their roots and focusing on the enthusiast communities with their interest in simpler lightweight mice. From there they have been making smaller changes and continuing to innovate as they go and the Viper V2 Pro is the columniation of that. Making a lightweight wireless mouse itself is hard, especially when you aren’t just putting holes all over the design. There is a reason you only see a few companies going in that direction. Even the original Viper and the original G Pro Wireless were impressive at the time, batteries are heavy. But like with a race car, the Viper V2 Pro has had small changes that add up where it is now just 58 grams. Frankly, I don’t know how much more they can even do without big sacrifices. But the lightweight and the symmetrical shape is similar in some ways to the Sensei and the FK which has been a popular shape over the years.
