Tastaturen im 60% Format sind schwer im Kommen. Auch das deutsche Startup Mountain aus Freiburg bringt nun ein solch kompaktes Gerät auf den Markt. Wie schon bei der Everest Max lässt sich auch die kleine Everest 60 um ein Numpad erweitern und dank austauschbarer Switches und RGB Beleuchtung umfangreich individualisieren. Die Everest 60 überzeugt durch eine hochwertige Hardware, innovative Features und ein überragendes Tippgefühl, das sich durch Dämpfung und Schmierung tatsächlich von anderen mechanischen Tastaturen abheben kann. Auch das andockbare Numpad und das beibehalten der Pfeiltasten bei der 60% Tastatur heben das Modell von anderen ab. Die Everest 60 ist definitiv eine empfehlenswerte Tastatur, wenn man mit dem US-Layout zurecht kommt.

Mountain steht für besonders anpassbare Tastaturen. Die neue Everest 60 kommt nun als platzsparendes Modell im 60-Prozent-Layout auf den Markt. Bei Bedarf kann sie aber auch einfach um einen optionalen Ziffernblock ergänzt werden.

When I reviewed the EVEREST MAX back in 2022 it was easily one of the best keyboards I had used to date and well, I was expecting the same from the EVEREST 60. Well, to a certain degree that was the case, build quality is very good, the tactile-55 keys are soft and yet they do offer a good amount of feedback and as for looks both the RGB illumination of the keys and the surrounding LED strip look very nice. The Displaypad is also a very nice addition to the EVEREST 60 since no matter what market segment you are chances are you will find something to use it with (if only the keys were larger, that would make things even better). Not all is perfect however so what I didn’t like about the EVEREST 60 was where MOUNTAIN decided to place some of its keys (delete/shift, took me quite a while to get used to them) and also the fact that the numpad can detach very easily even by moving the keyboard left and right on your desk (looking back this is the same issue I had with the EVEREST MAX). It would also be nice if you could attach the displaypad directly onto your EVEREST 60 (using one of the two free front USB-C ports) but at this point I am probably nitpicking.

Keyboards in the 60% format are hard on the rise. The German startup Mountain from Freiburg is now also launching such a compact device. As with the Everest Max, the small Everest 60 can also be expanded with a numpad and extensively customized thanks to exchangeable switches and RGB lighting. Mountain is a fairly new player when it comes to peripherals, but they’re one of the most advanced and enthusiastic brands out there, pushing for real innovation, not just market hype. It’s been around two years now since they launched their first keyboard. While it may have been one of the most expensive keyboards I’ve ever reviewed, there’s no doubt it was one of the absolute best I’ve ever seen, overflowing with unique and innovative features that raised the bar for high-end gaming keyboards. That’s a tough act to follow though, and rather than trying to go bigger and more complicated, Mountain are scaling things down. The new Mountain Everest 60 is a 60% keyboard, slimming things down for those who want something more compact, nimble and portable.

The Mountain Everest 60 keyboard is the one we’re reviewing today. We have already covered two products of this German company; one was the Makalu 67 mouse and the Everest Max keyboard. This time it’s the 60% version of the latter. What we’ll find interesting about this product? This time it’s not using the Cherry MX switches but rather the custom-made MOUNTAIN.

With the Everest 60, Mountain has succeeded to bring the features of a full-sized gaming keyboard on a much smaller form factor, with the modularity aspect we have seen with Everest Max as well. The Mountain Tactile 55 switches which came with our sample are silent and pleasant to type on; they are factory-lubed and soundproofing is attained by the silicone mat in the bottom housing, the foam on the PCB as well as between the PCB and the top aluminum plate. Need an assortment of switches on your keyboard? No problem, since the switches are fully removable, and the Everest 60 does accept not only 3-pin but also 5-pin mounted models!
