Crucial X10 Pro Portable SSD, schwarz, 2TB, USB-C 3.2

In Leistungstests liefern beide Modelle ein gutes Bild ab. Die neuen Komponenten im Inneren verweisen die Vorgängergeneration (X6/X8) auf die hinteren Plätze. Die X9 Pro eignet sich dabei für nahezu alle Anwendungen, denen ihr im Alltag begegnen werdet.

Erst Ende Juli präsentierte Micron zwei neue Produkte im Produktportfolio der Crucial Pro-Serie, die für Content Creators wie Fotografen, Videografen, Designer oder andere leistungsorientierten Nutzer entwickelt wurden. Neben der X9 Pro Portable SSD, stellte man auch die X10 Pro Portable SSD vor. Die auf TLC-NAND basierende X10 Pro ist die bisher schnellste externe SSD von Micron, bietet sequenzielle Lese- und Schreibgeschwindigkeiten von bis zu 2.100 MB/s bzw. 2.000 MB/s und bis zu 4 TB Speicherplatz. Das Drive ist sowohl wasser- als auch staubdicht (IP55), bietet einen USB-C-Anschluss und funktioniert mit Windows, Mac, Android, Spielkonsolen und mehr. Für einen ausführlichen Review haben wir uns das Modell mit 2 TB Speicherkapazität ins Testlab eingeladen. Im Test muss das Drive u.a. auch gegen verschiedene Mitbewerber, wie z.B. die Kingston XS2000, das WD_BLACK P40 Game Drive oder verschiedene Thunderbolt-basierte Laufwerke, antreten. There’s no doubt that the Crucial X10 Pro portable SSD was able to deliver when it comes to performance. Price-wise, Crucial is usually very competitive. Even their T705 and T700 SSDs are some of the cheapest, if not the cheapest, and fastest Gen5 SSDs in the market. So, if you ever spot the X10 Pro at a very attractive price or offer, consider it at the top of your list.

While the X9 Pro drive can be considered a good mainstream variant, the X10 Pro is really impressive in terms of both read/write performance for an USB 3.2 Gen2 2x2 drive, staying on top with other high-end models we have tested in the past. At its heart it does pack a Silicon Motion SM2320 controller and durable Micron 176L 3D TLC NAND ICs, which are able to hold a high transfer rate for quite a bit!

Today’s review made 2 things clear, 1st that current portable SSDs are still fast enough to cover the majority of users out there and 2nd that there’s not much “variety” in regards to portable SSD controllers currently in the market. Phison just like Silicon Motion has an USB 3.2 Gen2x2 controller available (actually i think they have 2?) but for reasons I’m not aware that’s not what storage manufacturers are choosing to go with lately (although cost is what it all comes down to in the end). With that small parenthesis out of the way there’s no doubt that the SM2320G controller by Silicon Motion together with 176-layer 3D TLC NAND flash by Micron delivers as advertised and that’s what really matters. In terms of size well both the X9 Pro and X10 Pro can easily fit in your pocket and as for build quality although not rugged the anodized aluminum enclosures should handle pretty much anything.
