Two things tend to come up first whenever the conversation turns to the NVIDIA DGX Spark. The first is the headline spec: 128 GB of unified memory in a roughly $4,000 desktop box, a number that would have seemed implausible to put on an engineer’s desk even two years ago. The second is the 200 GB network on the back of the unit. The presence of a real datacenter-class fabric on a desktop appliance is what makes people lean forward, because it implies something more than a faster single-box workstation. It implies the ability to connect Sparks and replicate physically, the kind of multi-node setup that used to live exclusively in a rack.

The ASUS Ascent GX10 follows the same core build around the NVIDIA GB10 Superchip, pairing an Arm v9.2-A CPU complex with integrated Blackwell graphics and 128GB of unified LPDDR5x memory. NVIDIA rates the platform at up to 1 petaFLOP of FP4 AI compute, supporting model fine-tuning up to 200 billion parameters. CPU and GPU communication is handled over NVLink-C2C, allowing coherent memory access across the system.

The NVIDIA DGX Spark represents a watershed moment in accessible AI infrastructure. In 2017, the landmark “Attention is All You Need” paper that introduced the Transformer architecture relied on an eight-GPU P100 server configuration, consuming tens of kilowatt-hours and occupying significant data center real estate. Today, the DGX Spark delivers superior computational performance in a compact 240-watt desktop form factor. This dramatic evolution in power efficiency and form factor compression makes formerly datacenter-exclusive AI capabilities accessible to individual researchers, small teams, and distributed development organizations.

Back at CES in January, NVIDIA announced what was at the time called Project DIGITS and its accompanying GB10 "superchip". Project DIGITS was designed to bring powerful local AI to the desktop with more memory than any consumer GPU can provide. Now named the NVIDIA DGX Spark, the system was initially announced with a price tag of $3,000 and it was expected to ship in May of this year. However, fine-tuning the hardware and software stack and other external global factors pushed availability to today in mid-October, and with a higher price tag to boot.
